Role Overview

OpenForests is looking for a Freelance UX/UI Designer to support the continuous improvement of explorer.land and custom impact platforms and dashboards. These tools are used by restoration organizations, funders, and institutions to bring transparency and visibility to nature-based solutions. You’ll work closely with our product, marketing, and development teams to design intuitive user journeys and unlock seamless experiences for our growing global user base.

OpenForests offers custom forest information services and a map-based project presentation platform, explorer.land.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve the onboarding experience and overall navigation of explorer.land
  • Translate user feedback and internal insights into actionable UX enhancements
  • Design interactive prototypes that reflect both logic and elegance in user flows
  • Contribute to UX research to better understand user needs, pain points, and behaviors
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure smooth and thoughtful implementation of designs

Qualifications

  • Solid experience as a UX/UI Designer working on web platforms, ideally involving data-heavy or map-based interfaces
  • Comfortable working with B2B products and translating complex functionality into accessible UX
  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma (components, styles, prototyping); Miro familiarity is a plus
  • Strong understanding of onboarding flows, navigation design, and user-centered problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently while integrating feedback from cross-functional teams
  • Basic understanding of front-end development principles to ensure feasibility
  • Fluency in English
  • Previous collaboration with agile product teams and developers is a plus
  • Nice to have: Experience with platforms related to impact monitoring, landscape restoration, or nature-based solutions
