Put your project on the map

An interactive map of your work that people can actually explore — boundaries, satellite timelines, data layers and updates from the field. Built for conservation, restoration and rewilding organisations to communicate and report what they do.

WHAT’S AN INTERACTIVE PROJECT MAP?

An interactive project map is a geo-referenced, explorable view of a conservation or restoration project on the web. Unlike a static image or a location pin, it shows the actual boundaries of the project area, satellite imagery over time, environmental data layers, and updates from the field, all in one place that visitors can navigate themselves. For nature-based organisations, it is the difference between asking funders to take your word for the work, and letting them see the evidence directly.

FEATURES

Everything that makes the work visible, in one place.

Project Boundaries

A pin marks a location. It doesn’t show what land is included, how large the area is, or what’s being monitored inside it. Supporters have no way to understand the scope of the work.

With explorer.land, you draw your project’s actual footprint — or upload a geospatial file. The boundary is the starting point for everything else: the satellite data, the field updates, and the geo-analytics are all calculated over your real area.

explorer.land project boundaries

Satellite Timeline

A before-and-after is two images you chose. There is no way for a visitor to verify the context, check intervening years, or see what was happening outside the frames you selected. Your project comes with a satellite timeline built in. Visitors move through historical and recent imagery over your actual project area themselves. The change is visible, interactive and not mediated.

Environmental data layers

A number in a report has no visible source. For land-based work, the evidence exists in satellite records — it’s just rarely connected to the project in a way an external person can check.

Add more than 30 environmental data layers directly over your project boundaries. Visitors see the same data that informs your monitoring — not a summary of it. Custom layers can be uploaded on request.

Geo-located updates and media

An update published on a website is disconnected from the land it describes. A reader has no way to know where on the project it refers to, or how it fits the wider picture.

Every news post, photo and field update is geo-located to where it happened. Visitors explore the project’s story across the land, not as a list of text entries.

Stakeholder and funder view

A report tells a funder what happened. An interactive map lets them see it. There is a difference, and funders who work across multiple organisations increasingly notice which they are getting.

Create a dedicated portal for each funder or sponsor: their sites, their contribution, the satellite evidence of change. Branded to your organisation, shareable privately or publicly, and connected to your monitoring.

I really love the mobile UI! I know that challenge from Terrastories, and I think you’ve done an excellent job approaching it. I played around with the page and map, and as before, experienced that everything is as intuitive as I expect it to be. Really great stuff!

ReWild Africa is a storytelling company that sheds light on solutions to ecological restoration. With OpenForests explorer.land we found an incredible valuable map-based tool to connect all story elements, including the films we are producing to a specific project location. This way we enable our clients to tell engaging and transformative stories in a transparent way.

Since engagement in explorer.land, potential clients, and partners are contacting us. It is a wonderful platform with a super-wide network of potential clients and partners. It has helped us a lot in moving forward with our ecosystem restoration activities. Not only because we can prove exactly what we are doing, but it has also put us in contact with various international clients and partners. The platform really works for us.

FAQ

What is an interactive project map for conservation and restoration?

An interactive project map is a geo-referenced, web-based view of a nature project that visitors can explore themselves — showing the project's real boundaries, satellite imagery over time, environmental data layers, and updates from the field. It gives funders, donors and partners a way to see the work and verify the evidence, rather than reading a summary of it.

How is explorer.land different from Restor?

explorer.land is a tool you own and configure: you define your boundaries, layer satellite and environmental data over your land, connect it to your monitoring, and embed it directly on your own website. It aims not only to show your impact, but to monitor, report, prove and improve your impact.

How is it different from GoogleMaps?

General mapping tools show a location. They have no ecological data layers, no satellite timeline, no project boundaries, no geo-located updates, and no connection to impact monitoring. explorer.land is built specifically for nature-based organisations to communicate and report their work.

Can I embed the map on my own website?

Yes. The map is embedded with a simple iframe — paste it into any page on WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace or plain HTML. You can embed a single project, your full organisation map, or a multi-stakeholder network map.

Is the data satellite-verified?

Yes. Data layers and timelines draw on satellite imagery analysed over your actual project area — the same evidence used for monitoring and reporting.
