explorer.land x NOAH: scaling finance for nature-based projects

Session 1: carbon & non-carbon investments

Recording of Session 1: carbon & non-carbon investments (Thursday, March 23, 3 – 4:30pm CET)

Watch the 1st session of the interactive online series on scaling finance for nature-based projects

During this session, organisations involved in financing, capacity-building, support, and match-making related to carbon and non-carbon investments presented their approaches and discussed 2 main questions:

  1. what makes nature-based projects funding-ready?
  2. how to best access and sustain financing?

Issues such as due diligence, monitoring, and transparency were also examined. The session ended with an interactive Q&A block and a discussion of the next steps for projects wishing to collaborate with the speakers or apply for funding.

See below the interesting line-up of speakers from Terraformation, Open Forest Protocol, GoodCarbon, EnverX, and Callirius.

Background

Taking into account the feedback we received from the explorer.land project stage at NOAH Zurich, the interactive online series on scaling finance for nature-based projects hosts investors, foundations, and advisory organizations who present their approaches and requirements.

Blueprints for making projects funding-ready, best practices in securing financing, and application processes will be discussed. All sessions are tailored towards the needs of project developers seeking funding to start or expand their operations.

Why participate?

  • If you are a project developer, you will have the ability to interact with organizations directly funding or supporting projects. You will receive a concise yet comprehensive overview of their approaches and processes, as well as an outline of concrete next steps you could pursue.
  • If you are an organization involved in funding or supporting nature-based projects, you will network with relevant actors and transparent nature-based projects. You will stay on top of current developments in nature financing and contribute to scaling it.

Not all forests are the same: why planting trees isn’t the same as restoring a forest

“Ten million trees planted.” Headlines like this show up often, and they’re usually meant as good news. But on their own, they don’t say much about what actually happened on the ground. Did the trees survive past year one? Are they native species, suited to that soil and climate? Is it a forest, a single-species plantation, or a mixture of the two?
